CROATIAN NATIONAL PARKS


 

Day 1. Zagreb - Arrival

Day 2. Zagreb - Opatija
A visit to Zagreb's hill of Gornji Grad, St Mark's Church with a polychromous roof, the Cathedral, the Croatian National Theatre and the University of Zagreb. Departure for the small town of Opatija, the cradle of Croatian tourism and the famous seaside resort of the Habsburg family and other celebrities including Gustav Mahler, Isadora Duncan and A. P. Chekhov.

Day 3. Opatija - Pula - Brijuni Islands National Park - Poreč
A visit to the city of Pula includes a tour of the Arena, one of the world's best preserved amphitheatres. The tour continues towards the Brijuni islands abounding in lush tropical vegetation, wild animals and archaeological finds. The archipelago comprises 14 islets, and the one we shall visit is called the Veliki Brijun.

Day 4. Poreč - Plitvice Lakes National Park
A visit to the basilica of St Euphrasia (6th century), famous for its magnificent mosaics. Departure for the Plitvice Lakes National Park – Croatia's largest national park comprising 16 lakes interconnected with waterfalls. Arrival to Plitvice late in the afternoon, dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5. Plitvice - Paklenica National Park - Zadar
A tour of the Plitvice Lakes National Park and departure for the Paklenica National Park, famous for its Karst landscape and both huge and small canyons. Continuing towards the city of Zadar, the tour includes visits to the Roman Forum, the Cathedral of St Anastasia (St Stošija) and the Church of St Donatus.

Day 6. Zadar - Krka National Park - Šibenik - Trogir - Split
Departure for the Krka National Park, a tour of the waterfalls, a boat ride to the islet of Visovac and a visit to the Franciscan Monastery. The tour continues towards the city of Šibenik and its cathedral dating back to the 15th century, a masterpiece of Gothic and Renaissance art. A visit to the medieval town of Trogir and St Lawrence's Cathedral famous for its beautiful Romanesque portal.

Day 7. Split - Dubrovnik
A visit to Diocletian's Palace (3rd century B. C.) highlighting its Peristyle, the Cathedral of St Dominus (St Duje) and Jupiter's Temple.

Day 8. DubrovnikA tour of Dubrovnik includes visits to the Franciscan Monastery, the Dominican Monastery, the Rector's Palace and the Cathedral. A tour of the city walls and magnificent fortresses is foreseen for early afternoon.

Day 9. Dubrovnik - Mljet National Park
A whole-day excursion to the island of Mljet covered with dense pine forests. A visit to the Mljet National Park, famous for its two salt water lakes connected with a channel, and to a Benedictine Monastery built on the islet located in the larger lake locally called Veliko Jezero.

Day 10. Dubrovnik - Departure
